Sunday School

People of all ages gather in the Worship Hall at 10:30 for the opening of the service, and then children and youth depart at about 10:45 to attend their Sunday School classes. Children and teens also meet at other times for special activities.

UU Religious Education for young people focuses on the development of their spiritual growth, religious understanding, self-worth, and social awareness and social action. The seven principles and six sources are the foundation of Unitarian Universalist Religious Education. Each year at UUFSM we focus on one of four "pillars":

  • Religions of the World (2010-2011)
  • Building a Better World
  • Our Jewish and Christian Heritages
  • Becoming and Being a UU

As they progress through the program, the children encounter each pillar several times, learning new aspects of it through age-appropriate curricula. Each young person can build on this accumulated knowledge to construct a personalized framework of spiritual and moral values.

A Thought for the Day

"There is a little plant called reverence in the corner of my soul's garden, which I love to have watered once a week."
