A Hands on Visual Art Workshop for Day of the Dead will take place on Saturday November 7, 2009 from 10am-1pm at Davies Memorial Unitarian Universalist Church, 7400 Temple Hill Rd, Camp Springs MD. The public is invited.
The Day of the Dead/El Día de los Muertos is a holiday celebrated in Mexico and by Latin Americans living in the United States and Canada. The holiday focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died. During this 3 hour Hands on Visual Art Workshop, we will create a traditional altar honoring the deceased. Each student will make their own Folkart such as Huichol yarn painting, sugar skulls, paper flowers and papel picado/ cut paper banners.
The Hands on Visual Art Workshop is best suited to students from grades 3 and up, unless accompanied by an adult.
