UUFSM History (2007-present)
UUFSM today
In 2007-2008, UUFSM celebrated its fifteenth anniversary. We enjoyed sermons by visiting ministers about once a month, conducted lay-led services, and became a member of the Church of the Larger Fellowship, which provides resources for Sunday worship and Religious Education. We also began our policy of tithing by sending an amount equal to ten percent of our annual pledged income to charitable organizations. In 2008, the Fellowship was one of five congregations world-wide to receive the Helen Fogg Chalice award, in recognition of its exceptional support to the UU Service Committee.
In 2008-2009, the Rev. Russ Savage was with UUFSM as a regular guest minister; the Rev. Michael Relland was UUFSM's consulting minister from 2009-2011. They spoke from the pulpit two or three times a month.
In 2011, we rejoined the Church of the Larger Fellowship, and one of our members reads a sermon by a minister each month. We have guest speakers, member-led services, and an Intergenerational service each month. We minister to each other with discussions, reflections, and celebrations at Sunday services, and with gatherings and friendship during the week.
UUFSM continues its outreach to the larger community by working with Three Oaks Center, participating in gift drives, food drives, and other projects during the year. As UUFSM continues its second decade, we look forward to the continuation of a healthy, vibrant and growing liberal religious Community for many years to come.
