UUFSM Banner
Our banner was designed and sewn by members of the Fellowship. At district conventions and assemblies, it joins other congregations' banners in the opening processions.
The fish, blue crab, heron, and beaver are often seen in Southern Maryland. The four trees show the four seasons of life and the interconnections between roots, blossoms, fruit, and harvest.
The harp symbolizes our love of music, the book our pursuit of knowledge, and the bread and the interclasped hands our commitment to community. The chalice and flame inside the interwoven circles of Unitarianism and Universalism are at the center.
The black and orange diamonds and the red and white cross bottony at the bottom represent Southern Maryland, and they are from the coat of arms of George Calvert, the first Lord Baltimore, whose sons established the capital of Maryland in 1634 at St. Maries City and created a colony where religious freedom was guaranteed.
