"Stuff the Bus" with Food on May 22
As part of National Transportation Week, citizens are invited to fill a St. Mary’s County Transit bus with non-perishable foods on Friday, May 21 and Saturday, May 22. These donations are critically needed to replenish local food banks. “Our local food pantries have seen a 60 percent increase in requests over the past year,” said Cynthia Brown, Interim Director, Department of Human Services. “Many of these requests are from people seeking assistance for the first time due to the economic downturn.”
Five buses will be stationed throughout the county on Saturday, May 22 to accept donations. The buses will be located at the Food Lion in Charlotte Hall, the McKay’s Grocery Store in Leonardtown, the McKay’s Grocery Store in the Wildewood Shopping Center; the Giant Grocery Store in the First Colony Shopping Center and at Wal-Mart. Donations will be accepted on those days from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
