This year marks the seventh annual Evolution Weekend. While all participating congregations will address the relationship between religion and science, many will focus their attention on the theme selected for this year: an interfaith discussion of religion and science.

Public Forum on Health Care Reform in Annapolis
A forum on Health Care Reform in Maryland will be held January 23, 2012, under the auspices of the Maryland Women’s Coalition for Health Care Reform and the League of Women Voters of Maryland. The purpose of the forum is to hear about the work that has already been done, and make recommendations for additional work needed, to bring into being Maryland’s Health Benefit Exchange. This exchange will be the source of health care coverage for people who are uninsured or under-insured when the exchange goes into effect on January 1, 2014.

Science Fair: UUFSM presents Joseph Priestley Awards
UUFSM is a religion of both reverence and reason. In support of that, we award the Joseph Priestley Cash Award (Junior and Senior categories) to the students whose science fair project in chemistry has the best potential to improve quality of life or shows great promise.
Three Oaks Center Fundraiser: W.A.R.M.T.H.
Three Oaks Center is sponsoring a "Working Artists Raise Money for The Homeless" (WARMTH) event in November. For a $5.00 admission, you can sip wine and stroll through the historic Camalier House in Leonardtown, while appreciating (and possibly buying) the work of local artists. A great place to get unique gifts for friends and family for the holidays, and a portion of the sales goes to support Three Oaks.
Prepare and Deliver Thanksgiving Food Baskets
The Church of the Ascension on Great Mills Road (http://www.churchoftheascension-patuxent.org) will be preparing and delivering Thanksgiving Food Baskets on Saturday. We will gather at the church on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. Help is also needed to deliver the baskets the same day. If anyone has any questions, call Chris Schmitthenner at: 301-472-4279.
Lecture: How the Bible and Science Mix
Stephen Godfrey, a curator of paleontology at the Calvert Marine Museum, describes his journey developing perspectives on integrating the study of the Bible with a commitment to academic and scientific inquiry in a talk open to the public in Schaefer Hall 106 at St. Mary’s College of Maryland, starting at 4:45 p.m. Wednesday Sept. 28. The talk, “The Exhibit You Won't See in a Museum: The Structure of the Universe through the Eyes of the Bible,” is part of Museum Studies Week at the college.
