WHAT WE TEACH OUR CHILDREN
|
The seven principles are the foundation
of Unitarian Universalist Religious Education. Each year we focus on
one of four "pillars" to learn about UU history, UU
heritage, religions of the world, and how each of us can help make
the world a better place. The Religious Education program for
children and youth is committed to the development of their
self-worth, spiritual growth, religious understanding, and social
awareness and social action.

UUFSM Religious Education Programs for Children
UUFSM provides a
nursery,
a Sunday School for all ages, and a youth group that meets outside
church hours. Please register
your child for RE and for the Youth Group There is no fee, though we ask that all parents and all members of
the Fellowship help out in some way, either by assisting or teaching in
the classrooms, providing some supplies, sharing a hobby or a
profession with the children, being part of the RE committee, or making
a donation.
SUNDAY MORNINGS On Sunday mornings at 10:30, the children go to
the Worship Sanctuary with
the rest of the Fellowship. (Infants and children 3 and under can go
to the nursery at 10:20.)
The children stay in the Sanctuary for the opening songs and prayers and the lighting of the chalice, enjoy the Sharing Moment (an activity for all ages), and then go to Sunday School, usually around 10:45. They're in class until 11:30 or so, when they join everyone in the Fellowship Hall for snacks. The nursery closes at 11:45. On Special Days, the schedule is slightly different. WHAT TO WEAR? Most children come in jeans and T-shirts, though sometimes they like to dress up a little or even a lot. Painting and crafts are frequently a part of our classes, so bringing a T-shirt to use as a smock is a good idea. |
